This song, tho' a different live version than the one I first heard on the live album "From Madison Square Garden" strikes a chord for all those lovers, who, for whatever reason, have drifted far apart. I have often sung this song in my head because it's a special song to me and
probably to lots of Elvis fans as well as others. This song really means a lot to me. I guess as we grow older and begin to appreciate life a bit more, we always have a longing for "before time began slipping on by", that's how this song is for me. It's dedicated to a particular person, mostly because when I played it on my old
Phillips "Denim" cassette recorder, she was the omnipotent love of my life.
I believe Gladys Knight also cut a full on cracking version.
