About Me: | Nukky Grissom’s story begins in Small Town, Everywhere, where working-class ideals are
the rule of order. First you go to school, then you get a job, then you get a mortgage. Then you get married, then you have kids and then hopefully you get to retire by the time your kids are starting the cycle all over again. Growing up in Stratford, ON, Nukky witnessed this cycle first-hand and even began to march down the same path. However, somewhere between graduating university and beginning a career, Nukky awakened and decided to throw everything out the window and chase the love of his life; Hip-Hop. “I had some decent jobs after graduating but I just wasn’t satisfied with what I had and it just got to a point where I knew I wanted more. I realized that the only way to truly be happy and successful is to follow your dreams, regardless of how unconventional it appears to other people. The student loans can wait.” – Nukky Grissom It wasn’t long after Nukky threw his $40,000 education into the wind that he released his debut project, The Jimmy Cliff LP, in December 2009. The mash-up record - entirely built around Jimmy Cliff samples - generally flew under the radar but still received positive reviews from those who did hear it and provided enough momentum to lead into his next project, Where Grissy Happens – The Mixtape, which he released in May 2010. After the release of his first two projects as well as the 2010 NBA Preview Series, Nukky launched his official website – IAMGRISSY.COM – and hit the road performing a full sleight of shows which included Canadian Music Fest, Barrie New Music Fest as well as WhatsGoodToronto.com’s “The Prospects”, a multiple-round, performance-based competition in which he was a finalist. With the release of IAMGRISSY – The EP last June, which landed him a spot on College Music Journal’s Top-40 Hip-Hop charts, Nukky went on to shoot several videos for the project and just recently re-released the project with additional material, already garnering spins on commercial radio across Canada (CHR formatted stations). Currently residing in Toronto, Nukky’s style has been described as a fusion between the catchy, commercial appeal of a guy like Travie McCoy and the raw truthful conviction of an artist like J. Cole and he feels it’s just a matter of time before industry success finds him. “Growing up in a blue-collar environment definitely has its challenges in terms of overcoming the limited beliefs that develop over time, but it’s also been a huge blessing. Not only has it provided me with the blue-collar work ethic, but it also provided me with a story that millions of people can relate to.” – Nukky Grissom |
