About Me: | Eastern Supremacy is a bi-coastal product which formed in the Midwest. Their demo CD conveys stories dripping with grit, pain and hope that has real recognizing real
From crack pipes and cracked sidewalks, Philly Shy-Ty Furious exploded onto the Midwest rap scene with their recent demo release. To understand the motivation and must of their music one must understand the seedy, desperate lives they lived. Ty grew up in Washington state, the other's on the East Coast. The tie which binds the rappers stems from drug abuse. Philly and Shy-Ty fell victim to addiction, selling their souls for crack and herion. Furious watched family members fall to addiction too, but his brother kept him sober. "I was living in an area with a lot of violence and plain trouble," Furious recalled from his days in Baltimore. "I saw my (younger) brother going down that same road when i started getting into rap. I saw he liked it so I put all my energy into, to keep him off the streets, keep him home." While helping his brother find a productive hobby, Furious also tightened his emcee skills. "When my brother turned 18 I wanted to get away from there so I moved up here (Fargo) to work for my dad's construction company." Eastern Supremecy was born when Shy-Ty and Philly met at NA meeting in Fargo. "I've always liked music and wanted to be involved," hy-Ty said. "I just didn't know how to take that step. When I met Philly and saw his rap skills, I knew it was time." Philly, much like Furious, had spent his adolescence enjoying the art of verbal assults released in battles. "When I got clean I got back into rapping," Philly said. "It's a way for us to share our pain and experieinces." "Rap is the purest form of self expression," Furious added. "If you listen to our songs you know who we are. Besides sharing we also want to change the image of white rappers. Right now they're clowns. We're not clowns and we're hear to revive the genre." As Furious and Philly's east coast flow compliment each other, Shy-Ty's west coast sound brings a hard hitting flavor to the music. According to his comrades Shy-Ty took to building beats with Pro-Tools, like a cat to milk. "(Charlie) Mizza of the 701 kind of took me under his wing and explained a lot of it to me," Shy-Ty said. "Once I learned the basics I picked the rest up pretty quickly." Furious also produces beats for the group, having years of experieince making beats pop on the Magix programs. "Because we have three rappers and two producers putting our demo CD together didn't take much time," Philly said. "Just by working together we push each other to write better lyrics and make better beats. We don't really mess around, after work (at the 9-5 job) it's straight to the studio." With clear eyes and healing hearts the Eastern Supremecy was born in Fargo. With diligence and discipline, the world, one day, will be their stage. |
